Computer hacker took £185k from PayPal customers, buys gold bullion

A computer crook who stole more than £185,000 from eBay and PayPal customers has just been jailed for three and a half years.

Richard Kirk, from the Sherwood area of Nottingham no less, raided the PayPal accounts of over 300 eBay users, transferred the funds into accounts under his control and then used £143,000 of the funds to buy luxury goods, including bars of gold bullion.

One account holder got suspicious and contacted police. The police then set up an operation outside Kirk's house as he took delivery of two gold bars, after the postman left he was arrested, surrounded by parcels.

Kirk pleaded guilty to five charges of fraud, four charges of theft and one relating to the laptop used to carry out the frauds.
