UK Home Secretary Theresa May promises £63m to fight cybercrime

Home Secretary Theresa May has announced £63m to boost UK police budgets in the fight against cybercrime. The funds will come from the £650m being spent on improving the UK's national cyber defences announced last year.

The Office of Cyber Security, within the Cabinet Office, warn that the main threats to UK infrastructure come not from terrorists but from organised criminals.

The funding will be used to bolster the UK's response to cyber crime and build an effective response to the cyber crime threat, further building on expertise within SOCA (the Serious Organised Crime Agency) and the Metropolitan Police's Central e-Crime Unit.
